Web Design Process
Like every client, every web project is unique; however, most projects follow a familiar path:
- Initial consultation
- Review of prior site (if one exists) and collateral materials
- Benchmarking of client's competition
- Development of art concept(s) (iterative)
- Development of workflow mapping (iterative)
- Development of data maps (iterative)
- Integration of art & functionality
- Beta testing
- Rollout
- Follow-up
Steps 4, 5 & 6 can be executed concurrently but should be completed prior to step 7.
The questions we ask prospective web development clients with little or no presence on the web include the following:
- What motivates you to be on the web?
- What do you want your site to do?
- What audience is the site targeting?
- How will you integrate your web and offline marketing strategies?
- Do you have the necessary graphics available or will they need to be developed?
- Where will your site be hosted? (remember we host, too)
- How (or by whom) do you want your site maintained?
Not every client can answer these questions immediately, but our experience has shown that answering them at the front end of a project makes the back end that much more satisfying for all involved!
